This course critically examines the ethical, philosophical, and social conflicts that have shaped the creation and reception of art, with a specific focus on cinema. Together we will explore questions such as: Who has the right to create and interpret it? What responsibilities do filmmakers and audiences owe one another? How different cultures and societies approach ethical questions—such as censorship, representation, and authorship—and how these perspectives can challenge or enrich your own assumptions. Through lectures, discussions, and practical exercises, you will develop the tools to navigate these complex issues both as an artist and as a viewer. You will learn to navigate the responsibilities you hold toward your subjects and audiences, address the challenges of an evolving media landscape, and create more impactful, thoughtful art. Ultimately, this course will empower you to become a more responsible, reflective, and engaged participant in the world of media and cinema, strengthening your voice and enhancing your credibility as a professional.
