The course is designed to examine the concept of “culture”, to introduce students to intercultural communication theories, and to study various communication practices in different countries. Through readings and discussions of culture specific scholarly articles, students improve their skills needed for effective communication with people in multi-cultural environment, learn how verbal and nonverbal communication styles differ across cultures, and how they can respect beliefs and values of other cultures. Students will be able to identify, describe and analyze some communication styles and cultural patterns in various cultures that impact individual’s behavior and attitudes towards others in everyday life.
