Students will develop a thorough understanding of psychoactive drugs, categories of psychoactive drugs, mechanisms of drug use, assessment of abuse and addiction, and skills in the application of counseling techniques that are used with individuals who abuse drugs and alcohol. Students will examine their own philosophies of counseling individuals who abuse drugs/alcohol. Students will participate in on-line assessment, exercises and case consultations to develop their own skills.
